Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Renzi Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Renzi, gaining the path to high office is most remarkable. Without Ji Earth to clash, restrain, or break it, the time for conspicuous achievement and fame naturally comes. For a Gui day at a Renzi hour, Day Emolument Returns to the Hour: Gui Water establishes Emolument at Zi. If year and month stems and branches contain none of Wu, Ji, Wu-branch, or Wei bringing punishment, clash, breaking, or harm, and the Three Origins have support and access to monthly influence, writing is refined and office conspicuous. A month accessing Wood influence also brings distinction. If Ji emerges in the pillars and Jia combines with it, there is also distinction; otherwise there are reversals. For a Guichou day at a Renzi hour, Wu or Yin, Yichou, or Jichou in the year and month gives a civil post at the fourth or fifth rank. Access to a month with a flourishing Body and Wood influence, with no Wu, Ji, Wu-branch, or Si present, gives conspicuous distinction. Wei brings censorial office; Si or Wu the metropolitan examination degree. Avoid Renyin, Yiwei, and Gengxu months: all bring punishment. A Yichou month gives low standing. For a Guimao day at a Renzi hour, hour and day punish one another, injuring the wife and harming children, but bringing proximity to the distinguished. Without Ji Earth, there is authority. Hai and Si both present give the metropolitan degree and censorial service. Pure Yin in year and month gives Hurting Office generating Wealth: either great distinction or great wealth. Avoid a Jiachen month: destructive punishment and solitude; a Bingshen month: a dreadful death; a Jichou month: punishment. For a Guisi day at a Renzi hour, spring and summer develop wealth and blessings. Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei brings wealth in the end, if not distinction. Avoid a Wuyin month: punishment; a Wushen month: penal punishment; a Jiyou month: beggary. For a Guiwei day at a Renzi hour, a Shen or You month brings distinction; Xu or Hai great wealth and distinction; Yin or Mao solitude; Chen or Si misfortune. Avoid a Renshen month: bodily incompleteness and misfortune; a Gengchen month: destructive punishment; a Yichou month: loss of land and a calamitous death. For a Guiyou day at a Renzi hour, there are advances and withdrawals in public and private life, few sons, and difficulty for the wife's family. Avoid a Bingyin month: death with the corpse incomplete; a Yisi month: great destruction and a calamitous death; a Dingyou month: death by hanging. For a Guihai day at a Renzi hour, there is distinction. Birth in a Hai month gives Flying Heaven Emolument and Horse, examination success at the highest levels, and great distinction. Furthermore, Gui Emolument resides at Zi and Ren Emolument at Hai; day and hour exchange them, bringing distinction at the third or fourth rank. Avoid a Wuyin month: death with the corpse incomplete; a Wushen month: solitude and poverty; a Jiyou month: solitude and hardship. Day Emolument Returns to the Hour is obtained within the configuration; it welcomes Food Spirit and fears punishment and clash. Do not simply say Hurting Office damages Wealth progression: Office does not increase and Wealth is not abundant. A Gui day meeting Renzi is likewise called the Returning Emolument configuration. Even a plain household becomes imposing; the Dark Warrior holds authority and substantial Emolument. Clear Water makes the precious vessel increasingly abundant; literary learning is broad and penetrating. Honorable promotion comes with investiture from the Purple Tenuity court; Jia, Wu, Yin, and Hai break and disturb it.
Translator's note: Stem Wu and branch Wu are distinguished where they appear together. The prohibited months, bodily-death claims, and the verse's partly obscure Office-and-Wealth wording are preserved as historical statements, without harmonizing the source's varying lists.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Guichou Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Guichou, hidden Ghost in the branch brings punishment and injury. With monthly access to a flourishing Body, guard against loss of the wife; Chou remotely combining with Si brings extraordinary distinction. For a Gui day at a Guichou hour, the branch obtains hidden Ghost. Gui takes Ji as Indirect Office; hidden Ji in Chou obtains its position. Gui takes Ding as wife, but Ding Fire lacks influence in Chou. With access to a month of flourishing Body and Companions, guard against loss of wife and Wealth. Numerous Chou and Yin in the pillars use Yin to punish Si and Chou to combine with Si, drawing out Bing and Wu from within Si as Wealth and Office. There must be no Wu or Ji among the stems: great distinction. Avoid Si, Wei, and Mao breaking the configuration. For a Guichou day at a Guichou hour, Chou remotely draws Bing and Wu from within Si as Wealth and Office. Birth in the printed Chou, Yin, Shen, Zi, You threefold-combination years and months indicates a worthy wife, filial children, and exceptional glory and distinction. Fire and Earth progression is unfavorable; Metal and Water progression favorable. For a Guimao day at a Guichou hour, there is the Day Noble configuration: the person is solitary and harms kin, yet distinction is indicated. Chou, Yin, or Chen in year and month, with no Wu, Ji, Si, Wu-branch, or Mao in stems and branches, gives the highest rank. For a Guisi day at a Guichou hour, there is the Blessed Virtue and Refined Influence configuration: learned, intelligent, exceptionally talented, and distinguished. Pure Chou and Si in year and month brings great distinction. For a Guiwei day at a Guichou hour, Zi, Chou, or Yin in year and month brings distinction, with wealth in middle age. A Mao month with Metal and Water progression brings the highest rank. Chen and Xu complete the Four Storehouses and bring great distinction. For a Guiyou day at a Guichou hour, there is the Blessed Virtue and Refined Influence configuration, profound learning, advances and withdrawals in public and private life, and difficulty for the wife's family. For a Guihai day at a Guichou hour, there is Arching Emolument. It fears clash, breaking, and filling the position; without Zi, Si, Wu, or Wei in the pillars, there is great distinction. A Yin, Wu, or Xu month with southern progression brings the sixth or seventh rank. Repeated Yin Water is gathered into the hour's storehouse. If youth cannot advance, do not force the pursuit. After an uncertain phrase about coming and passing middle age, the verse says: sit peacefully in the high hall and let the hair turn white. A Gui day meeting Guichou: Water flows, and the Metal configuration surges full. The storehouse meeting Xu and Wei makes Emolument and Wealth abundant; yet emptiness and lack are difficult to stir. Without a key, youth is not conspicuous; with a key, Emolument and Horse harmonize. When progression arrives, why exhaust the mind? Advancement brings great celebration to the household.
Translator's note: The source explicitly marks uncertainty in the middle-age verse with a question mark; no missing wording has been invented. Its five-item threefold-combination list and other irregular lists are retained as supplied.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Jiayin Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Jiayin, Blade again covers Office and Emolument, diminishing vigor. If the pillars contain neither Geng nor Shen, punishment and combination of Wealth and Office makes a distinguished person. For a Gui day at a Jiayin hour, punishment combines Wealth and Office. Gui takes Bing as Wealth and Wu as Office; Yin punishes out Bing and Wu from within Si as Wealth and Office. If there is no Office or Killing in the pillars, nor punishment, clash, breaking, or harm damaging the configuration, there is distinction. Geng, Shen, Wu, or Ji without restraint prevents distinction. For a Guichou day at a Jiayin hour, the destiny is originally distinguished, but Xin Metal in Chou reduces its measure. Pure Water in year and month brings office at the first rank. Autumn birth gives Seal and also distinction. A Chen month with eastern progression gives poverty and low standing. Pure Shen breaks Yin and is unfavorable. For a Guimao day at a Jiayin hour, a Hai, Mao, or Wei month brings the highest distinction. Yin and Mao in year and month give the Punishment and Combination configuration, with a marquis's or earl's standing. Yin and Hai give the fourth rank. A Yin month with western progression brings gold-and-purple honors. Chou, Xu, Chen, or Si also brings distinction. For a Guisi day at a Jiayin hour, the result is ordinary; monthly access to a flourishing Body brings great distinction. Avoid Wu, Ji, Geng, and Shen; the same applies to annual influences and progression. For a Guiwei day at a Jiayin hour, the person is refined and substantial, with conspicuous distinction in middle age. Birth in Jiwei or Jisi years and months brings military distinction. For a Guiyou day at a Jiayin hour, there is the Metal Spirit configuration. A Yin, Wu, or Xu month forms a Fire configuration, bringing exceptional conspicuous distinction and office at the second or third rank. Avoid a Chou year: no distinction. Si, Wei, Hai, or Zi in year and month brings wealth and longevity. Chen or Chou with Jia and Ding emerging in the stems is unfavorable. For a Guihai day at a Jiayin hour, a Zi, Chou, Wei, or Shen month brings the metropolitan examination degree; Metal and Water progression brings censorial office. Mao and Xu in year and month give a Sixfold Combination of the earthly branches and distinction. A Gui day at Jiayin opens Wu and Bing. If youth has not met its opportunity, remain hidden for the time being. If the four pillars have no clash or breaking, one rises smoothly to the clouds and reaches provincial office. A Gui day at a Yin hour gives its corresponding effects: branches and stems combine in glory. Without Ren, Ji, Wu, Geng, or Shen, Wealth and Emolument must be abundant. Progression reaching the imperial region brings conspicuous advancement, with one's literary name on the Tiger examination list. If even one position is somewhat void or clashing, children are harmed, Food injured, and official salary stripped away.
Translator's note: The opening Blade-covering phrase is compressed in the source and is retained without reconstructing it. The source's various avoidance lists differ; each remains in its own stated context.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Yimao Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Yimao, it meets Food Spirit in a place of Long Life. With neither Wu nor You, nor Xin and Si among the others, blessings and longevity are both complete: a person of emolument and rank. For a Gui day at a Yimao hour, Food Spirit's stem flourishes. Gui takes Yi as Academy Food Spirit. At Mao, Gui Water has Long Life, and Yi sits on Emolument. With no Ji to break it, Xin to seize it, or Wu and You bringing punishment and clash, access to monthly influence and support indicate intelligence, longevity, and an official drawing emolument. If Ji Earth is present, there is no distinction. Birth in a spring month with northern progression brings conspicuous advancement. For a Guichou day at a Yimao hour, a Chen or Chou month brings lofty distinction. One account says youth is lowly and middle age distinguished. For a Guimao day at a Yimao hour, there is hardship. Birth in a Yin or Mao month gives Hurting Office, making wealth and distinction hard to predict. Wei or Xu in year and month brings proximity to the distinguished through skilled arts. Chen or Chou is favorable; Jichou or Bingzi unfavorable. For a Guisi day at a Yimao hour, Wealth and Office are both beautiful. Spring gives Hurting Office, summer flourishing Wealth, autumn stable Seal, and winter an ordinary result. Chou, Wu, Zi, or Hai in year and month brings office at the third or fourth rank. Yihai or Yiyou brings disability. For a Guiwei day at a Yimao hour, a Yin, Hai, Mao, or Wei month gives Hurting Office injuring completely, a firm and decisive character, and an ordinary station. A Chen, Xu, Shen, or Zi month brings distinction. For a Guiyou day at a Yimao hour, a Shen, Zi, or Chen month brings distinction; Yin, Wu, or Xu gives a middling result; Hai, Mao, or Wei an ordinary result; Si, You, or Chou wealth. For a Guihai day at a Yimao hour, the printed Chen or Ji month brings censorial office. Yi and Gui meeting a flourishing Food branch: Heaven's craft in making things is originally impartial. Progression naturally brings a lofty person's recommendation; grasping the red cassia, one climbs the cloudy road. A Gui day meeting Yimao is a region where a noble person draws emolument. Yimao in the Jade Hall places princes and kings; there are generals and chief ministers at the Golden Gate. A gentleman spreads literary accomplishment; an ordinary person fills chests with Wealth and Emolument. Jiayin and Xinyou are rather peaceful and ordinary; wealth, distinction, glory, and splendor are greatly enjoyed.
Translator's note: The source prints the stem Ji in the Guihai month's list and Si in the opening avoidance list; these are retained instead of silently standardized. The final verse's Jiayin and Xinyou wording remains as supplied.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Bingchen Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Bingchen, Indirect Office lacks influence, yet this is not poverty. If no Wood influence accesses its configuration, it must be a person of pure, lofty standing, blessings, and Emolument. For a Gui day at a Bingchen hour, the Body sits on the Office storehouse. Gui uses Wu and Ji as Office. Earth's Tomb at Chen is the Office storehouse. Bing is Wealth; Chen forms a Water configuration, so Bing Fire lacks influence while Gui Water joins the configuration. With no Jia in the pillars to break Office and damage its storehouse, distinction is indicated. For a Guichou day at a Bingchen hour, the result is ordinary. A Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei month gives influence to Wealth and Office and brings distinction. For a Guimao day at a Bingchen hour, the person is solitary and brings difficulty to parents, yet has wealth, distinction, and others' respect. Mao or Hai in year and month gives the Day Noble configuration. Wu or Xu brings rank from the ninth up to the fifth. A Yin month with southern progression brings censorial office. For a Guisi day at a Bingchen hour, birth in a Zi month, in the south amid clear mountains and beautiful waters, brings lofty distinction. Zi or Wei in year and month brings substantial wealth. Xu or Mao brings close attendance; Wei, Xu, or Shen a scholarly office. For a Guiwei day at a Bingchen hour, the destiny is lofty. A Yin, Mao, or Wei month is ordinary. A Chen, Xu, or Chou month is favorable; a Si month makes Wealth and Office both flourish and brings distinction. For a Guiyou day at a Bingchen hour, there is solitude and distinction. A Si, You, or Chou month brings distinction. Yin or Mao is unfavorable; Zi or Wu brings wealth; a Xu month great distinction. For a Guihai day at a Bingchen hour, with no Jia Wood in the pillars damaging the Office storehouse, there is distinction, with southern progression. A Gui day at Bingchen has the Office storehouse closed. Wealth Star emerges, yet lacks influence. Office needs a key to open it, and Wealth needs to flourish; Mao and Wu in the pillars bring distinction. A Gui day meeting Bingchen: Wealth and Office are locked within the storehouse. Mao and Wu must come as keys to open it; maintaining the ancestral estate meets obstruction from close relatives. Food Spirit secretly assists. Amid emptiness and lack, resources are spent in vain. Poverty first and wealth later are arranged in the destiny; changing and reviving the ancestral household gradually gathers speed.
Translator's note: The source calls both Wu and Ji Office here; this has not been changed to another division of Office and Killing. The southern-place condition in the Guisi case is rendered separately from progression, as printed.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Dingsi Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Dingsi, a noble place meets Wealth and hidden Office. With support, expect flourishing Wealth and Emolument; without reliance, blessings must be incomplete. For a Gui day at a Dingsi hour, Gui combines with Wealth and Office. Gui uses Bing as Wealth, Wu as Office, Geng as Seal, and Si as Heavenly Yi Nobleman. At Si, Geng Metal has Long Life, Bing and Wu establish Emolument, and Gui Water enters the Womb. With support and a month accessing Water influence, there is distinction; without access to Water influence, the result is ordinary. When the hour meets the Three Wonders, development generally comes in late life. For a Guichou day at a Dingsi hour, poverty comes first and wealth later. Fire and Water progression brings advancement. For a Guimao day at a Dingsi hour, a Zi month gives a flourishing Body and Wealth, with conspicuous distinction. For a Guisi day at a Dingsi hour, Wealth and Office are both beautiful. A Zi month brings distinction; a Fire month wealth. Earth emerging in the heavenly stems, with Wu and Wei in the earthly branches, indicates great power and distinction. Pure Chou gives the highest rank. For a Guiwei day at a Dingsi hour, a Yin, Wu, or Xu month makes Body and Wealth flourish conspicuously. In autumn and winter, Emolument flourishes, with injury and disability. For a Guiyou day at a Dingsi hour, poverty comes first and wealth later. A Si or You month makes Office and Seal both flourish. Hai, Mao, or Wei gives Food and Hurting Office generating Wealth and conspicuous distinction. Wu or Xu makes Wealth flourish and is also favorable. For a Guihai day at a Dingsi hour, there is punishment and harm. Birth in spring or summer is good. Autumn gives Seal and is favorable; winter is ordinary. Gengyin in year and month brings military distinction. At the Si hour, Emolument and Horse compete to lead. Impartial creation produces a great worthy. Punishment and clash reduce it by half; without void or restraint, progression brings a reputation rising to the nine heavens. A Gui day meeting Dingsi: Nobleman, Emolument, and Horse share one region. Threefold Snake and Horse set the court's order aright, coming and going on jade palace floors and golden steps. Ren, Hai, Shen, and Yin reduce it by half; only fear progression falling into void. Truly without clash, restraint, punishment, or injury, one bows in court beside the Phoenix Pool.
Translator's note: The historical prediction of injury in the Guiwei case is retained alongside flourishing Emolument. Threefold Snake and Horse and the courtly images remain verse imagery, without invented combinations or missing pillars.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Wuwu Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Wuwu, transformation into Fire meets the hour's region of Imperial Flourishing. Progression favors southeastern Wood and Fire places; as an official, the person is clear and upright, with flourishing Emolument and honors. For a Gui day at a Wuwu hour, transformed influence forms a Fire configuration: Gui combines with Wu and transforms into Fire, which has Imperial Flourishing at Wu. Joining the configuration brings distinction. If the Body flourishes, Gui Water does not transform. When local influence leads it southward, Gui Water lacks influence: there is distinction but a short life. Eastern progression is favorable. For a Guichou day at a Wuwu hour, Wealth is substantial. Southern progression indicates distinction and a short life; eastern progression is favorable. For a Guimao day at a Wuwu hour, a Shen, Zi, Chen, or Hai month makes the Body flourish without transformation and gives an ordinary result. A Mao or Xu month brings distinction. For the printed Gui-Yi day at a Wuwu hour, middle age brings great wealth. Eastern progression brings conspicuous distinction. A Shen or Wei month also brings distinction. For a Guiwei day at a Wuwu hour, Yin, Wu, or Xu joins a Fire transformation configuration and brings conspicuous distinction. For a Guiyou day at a Wuwu hour, the wife's family wealth is harmed; there is a beginning but no completion. In a Zi year, the son is distinguished but has no Emolument; southern progression is good. For a Guihai day at a Wuwu hour, there is distinction. A Wei month with eastern progression, or a Metal month with restraint, brings conspicuous distinction. General Star supports Emolument, determining the destiny's height; being loved by others involves right and wrong. Gaining one's ambition, the chicken sheds feathers and transforms into a phoenix; a tiger lying on a level slope is bullied by rabbits. A Gui day meeting Wuwu: the Heavenly Origin lies in the direction of Already Across. Transforming into true Fire displays radiant authority; disasters disappear and blessings grow. Ren meeting Jiayin reduces it by half; disputes, success, and failure are hard to guard against. Close relatives are discordant, with hidden punishment and injury; abundant flourishing wealth is difficult to obtain.
Translator's note: The source prints an Yi-shaped graph instead of the Si branch in the third day case; the irregular Gui-Yi label is retained rather than silently repaired. Stem Wu and branch Wu are distinguished by the Wuwu hour context.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Jiwei Hour
The opening verse prints: when any of the six Gui days is born at Guiwei, Ghost flourishes and the Body declines, leaving blessings incomplete. Without access to monthly influence or rescue, ordinary clothing and sustenance suffer deficiencies. For a Gui day at a Jiwei hour, Ghost flourishes and the Body declines. Gui takes Ji as Ghost. At Wei, the two manifest and hidden Ji occupy their own position; Gui Water lacks influence, leaving turbidity rather than clarity and repeated success and failure. If there is access to monthly restraint but no access to Water influence, the result is ordinary. For a Guichou day at a Jiwei hour, the destiny is lofty. If year and month are both Chou, there is poverty and scant means. Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei makes Earth flourish, indicating eye illness, poverty, and low standing. Access to Metal, Wood, and Water influence brings distinction. A Wu month with northeastern progression brings distinction at the sixth or seventh rank. For a Guimao day at a Jiwei hour, Zi, Si, or Wei in year and month brings the second rank. Si and Yin punish close relatives. For a Guisi day at a Jiwei hour, Wealth and Office are both beautiful. With no Wu Earth in the pillars, and Mao Wood forming a configuration, judge it as Indirect Office in the hour: with restraint, distinction follows. For a Guiwei day at a Jiwei hour, the destiny is lofty. Spring restrains Indirect Office and is favorable; summer is ordinary. In autumn and winter the Body flourishes. A Shen month with Wood progression brings conspicuous distinction. Si or Chen in the year brings the standing of one of the Six Ministers. For a Guiyou day at a Jiwei hour, Yin, Si, Shen, You, Chou, or Xu in year and month brings distinction. For a Guihai day at a Jiwei hour, there is distinction. Birth in a Wei month gives loyalty and filial devotion, described as double gold, with office reaching the censorate. If Killing and Office are mixed, there is fear of ending life away from home. Hai in year and month brings distinction. Indirect Office and hidden Ghost lie buried in storage: danger, difficulty, fear, and anxiety prevent Wealth from accumulating. Chou and Xu meeting as keys are favorable; Gui's blessings amid flourishing influence surely avoid disaster. A Gui day meeting Jiwei: draining Ghost lies in storage and the Body declines. Without Mao and Xu as keys to open it, it remains locked and cannot reach prosperity. Flowers fall, flourish again, and bear fruit; parents and siblings find harmony difficult. Even if poverty comes first and wealth later, abandoning the old and welcoming the new causes no obstruction.
Translator's note: The heading and prose say Jiwei, but the opening verse says Guiwei; both readings are made explicit. The prose and verses name different storehouse keys, and these have not been harmonized.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Gengshen Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Gengshen, Office Star and flourishing Seal are in the branch. With no Ji, Bing, Yin, or Si in the pillars, a time of glory, wealth, and distinction naturally comes. For a Gui day at a Gengshen hour, judge it as Dedicated Seal Combining Emolument. Gui takes Wu as Proper Office and Geng as Proper Seal. At Shen, Geng flourishes and Wu is born. Shen combines with Wu and Bing within Si, giving the Gui day Wealth and Office. If there is support and neither Wealth nor breaking, harm, punishment, or clash affecting Office and Seal in the pillars, distinction is indicated. If Wealth is present in the pillars, Wealth progression brings repeated advances and retreats and little distinction. For a Guichou day at a Gengshen hour, Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei in year and month gives writing surpassing the age and office at the third rank. A Zi month sits on Emolument and is also favorable. For a Guimao day at a Gengshen hour, a Mao month is judged as Combining Emolument; northwestern progression brings distinction and gold-and-purple honors. A Shen month with northeastern progression brings censorial office. Gengchen or Gengxu in year and month gives Proper Office and distinction. A Chen month with Metal and Water progression brings distinction at the seventh rank. For a Guisi day at a Gengshen hour, there is poverty; it is also a Combining Emolument configuration. Birth in a Wei month brings achievement in inquiry and learning; northwestern progression brings distinction, as does northeastern progression. For a Guiwei day at a Gengshen hour, Jiayin and Yimao in the pillars give Ji combining with Jia and Yi combining with Geng: a worthy wife, filial children, and glory later. You or Shen in year and month brings the third or fourth rank. Autumn birth with Wood and Fire progression brings the second or third rank. Hai or Mao brings advancement to distinction through literature. For a Guiyou day at a Gengshen hour, Mao, You, Xu, or Yin in year and month brings distinction. Shen or You with Fire and Wood progression brings great distinction. For a Guihai day at a Gengshen hour, the character is even-tempered and the person solitary. A Mao or Wei month gives profound learning and a distinguished destiny. Shen also brings distinction. Zi or Shen gives a powerful close attendant's position. Carefully assess a Gui day at Gengshen: deep within Yu's Gate, a dragon is seen flying. Writing receives mighty assistance; pillars combining Wealth and Office are rare in the world. A Gui day correctly at Gengshen: Seal together combines with Office Star. Hai, Yin, Shen, Bing, and Si bring punishment and clash; amid separation and reunion, one's standing remains unsettled. Without breaking, the name shines on the examination list; an ordinary person enjoys peaceful Wealth and Emolument. Truly without punishment, harm, or disaster stars, an embroidered pheasant transforms into a phoenix.
Translator's note: The final list includes the stem Bing among branches; it is retained as supplied. Yu's Gate, the examination list, and the bird transformation preserve the source's images of advancement.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Xinyou Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Xinyou, the self loses its ground: what more is there? Manifest and hidden influences in the branches are injured by Xin; without aid, gain and fame are never achieved. For a Gui day at a Xinyou hour, there are manifest and hidden Owl Spirits. Gui sees Xin as Inverted Food. Xin establishes flourishing influence at You, while Gui loses its ground. Without support or rescue, the source gives an obscure phrase about meeting distinction and one's livelihood; with support, the result is favorable. For a Guichou day at a Xinyou hour, an autumn month gives Seal; Office and Killing progression is favorable. Winter brings both blessings and Emolument. Zi or Yin in year and month, with no Wu or Ji among the stems, brings distinction. For a Guimao day at a Xinyou hour, there is the Day Noble configuration. A Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei month brings distinction. Zi or Mao in year and month brings great distinction. Si or Wu also brings distinction. Another account says it is disadvantageous to wife and children. For a Guisi day at a Xinyou hour, there is solitude. A Yin or Mao year with a Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei month brings distinction. Zi, Wu, Mao, or You gives middling distinction; Yin, Shen, Si, or Hai the greatest distinction. For a Guiwei day at a Xinyou hour, spring brings poverty; summer difficulty first and ease later; autumn good fortune; winter distinction. For a Guiyou day at a Xinyou hour, a Shen or You month gives abundant Seal: the ancestral estate can be maintained, but the wife's family is ruined. A Zi, Si, or Wu month with Geng and Xin emerging in the stems gives Emolument, Nobleman, and Seal together: distinction beyond description. Yin or Xu brings gold at the waist; Wu or Hai great distinction. A Chou month gives heavy Killing, misfortune, and early death. For a Guihai day at a Xinyou hour, a Xu month with southeastern progression brings gold-and-purple honors; northeastern progression brings censorial office. A Zi month establishes Emolument; Wealth and Office in the year bring great distinction. The Heavenly Origin is Gui, and the hour Shen or You: using every mental resource, one busily passes the days. Office and Seal generate one another and Seal meets combination; even if inwardly wealthy, one remains ordinary. A Gui day meeting Xinyou: Inverted Food and Indirect Seal are difficult to withstand. With no reliance in the pillars, accept poverty for the time being; a Wealth-and-Office month is also commended. Only fear Gui Water losing its ground, unable to command or drive things successfully. Close relatives scatter east and west: a destiny of lifelong toil and hardship.
Translator's note: The source's unsupported-case livelihood phrase is unclear and has not been changed into a definite favorable or unfavorable prediction. The verse names both Shen and You despite the Xinyou heading; both are retained.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Renxu Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Renxu, Proper Office within the branch generates the Wealth storehouse. With rescue in the month, distinction often succeeds; without support, wealth is never attained. For a Gui day at a Renxu hour, Water and Fire are Already Across. Gui uses Bing and Ding as Wealth and Wu Earth as Office. Wu combines with Gui in flourishing influence, making the person intelligent and resourceful. Access to monthly influence with support brings distinction; without access, the result is ordinary. Access to the monthly influence of Fire and Earth gives both wealth and distinction; access through progression is also favorable. For a Guichou day at a Renxu hour, there is punishment. A Hai month in a region of substantial Earth gives high distinction. Chen or Shen in year and month, with southern progression, gives the first place in the metropolitan examination. In the fifth month, southern progression brings a chief censor's position. Spring or autumn birth with southern progression gives the eighth or ninth rank. For a Guimao day at a Renxu hour, there is the Day Noble configuration. Yin or Si in year and month, with Wu and Ding emerging as flourishing Wealth and Office, brings great distinction and power. Mao, Chen, Chou, Wu, Zi, and the like in year and month bring civil distinction. You or Xu with Metal and Earth progression gives the fifth or sixth rank. For a Guisi day at a Renxu hour, Wealth and Office are both beautiful. Spring is ordinary; summer, autumn, and winter bring distinction. Chen, Chou, Wei, Yin, or You in year and month brings censorial office. For a Guiwei day at a Renxu hour, there is punishment. Birth in a Si month gives the third or fourth rank. Zi or Geng in year and month brings a distinguished close attendant's position. For a Guiyou day at a Renxu hour, a Hai or Zi month gives lofty intelligence and distinction, a worthy wife, and filial children. Spring is ordinary. Summer gives Wealth and Office, autumn Seal: both are favorable. Chen and Chou punish and clash with the Xu storehouse, bringing both distinction and wealth. A Xu month with southeastern progression brings military distinction. For a Guihai day at a Renxu hour, spring birth gives Hurting Office Seeing Office; summer makes Wealth flourish; autumn and winter are favorable, with achievement in fame and gain. A Xu or Chen month with Hai and Zi progression brings distinction. A Zi month with southwestern progression brings gold-and-purple honors. Heavenly Yi, Ren, and Gui are arrayed at the Xu hour; Wealth and Office within the storehouse await a key. Without punishment or clash, it remains locked: youth finds advancement difficult and further disasters arise. A Gui day meeting Renxu: storehouses hold abundance. General Star and Heavenly Virtue support one another, and Chen and Xu help as keys to open it. Earth flourishes in the Long-Flowing Water configuration; kindness among close relatives turns to estrangement. Without void there is further surplus; middle and later life enjoy glory and blessings.
Translator's note: The source prints day rather than hour in its opening Renxu phrase; the heading and explanatory prose establish the hour context. Zi and Geng in the year-and-month list and the Long-Flowing Water configuration wording are retained without normalization.
Judgments for the Six Gui Days at the Guihai Hour
When any of the six Gui days is born at Guihai, Emolument and Horse fly to Heaven and meet a flourishing spirit. With no Office Star visible or entanglement provoked, this must be an extraordinary person's distinguished configuration. For a Gui day at a Guihai hour, there is Flying Heaven Emolument and Horse. Gui Water is vigorous at Hai. Gui uses Wu as Office and Bing as Wealth; within Hai, Bing and Wu are both at Extinction. Gui has neither Wealth nor Office, yet Hai clashes out Bing and Wu from within Si, which fly to Gui as Wealth and Office. If the pillars have no Wu or Ji provoking entanglement, nor Office Star breaking Emolument, and Geng or Xin is seen, the person is clear, pure, refined, intelligent, and distinguished with regional authority. For a Guichou day at a Guihai hour, judge it as Arching Emolument. Birth with Si, You, or Chou gives Blessed Virtue and Refined Influence. A Wu month is ordinary. A Mao or You month with southern progression brings gold-and-purple honors and censorial office, but longevity is difficult. For a Guimao day at a Guihai hour, the result is ordinary, with the Day Noble configuration. In a Yin or Mao month, judge through Hurting Office; Metal and Water progression brings censorial office.
