Pattern of All Five Phases Complete
This pattern takes year, month, day, hour, and Womb, carrying Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth in full. Jiazi year is Metal, Wuchen month Wood, Dingsi day Earth, and Dingwei hour Water. Yiyou year is Water, Renwu month Wood, Xinwei day Earth, and Bingshen hour Fire.
This pattern likewise does not discuss Officer or Killings, but takes only the completeness of the Five Phases, naturally possessing unending generation and inexhaustible transformation. It is also rare.
Translator's note: The source calls for all five phases but lists only four pillars in each example. The listed phases are retained without adding a Womb pillar or silently supplying the missing phase.
General Discussion of the Six Relations
The Six Relations are parents, siblings, Wife and Wealth, and descendants. Take the day stem as master. Direct Resource is the principal mother; Indirect Resource is a secondary mother and grandfather. Indirect Wealth is father, the mother's husband's star, and also a secondary wife. Direct Wealth is wife; Indirect Wealth is concubine and father. Peers are brothers and sisters.
Seven Killings are sons and Direct Officer daughters: yang is male and yin female. Food Spirit is male grandchildren; Hurting Officer female grandchildren and grandmother. The source refers to a diagram above whose explanation must be studied. A woman's Six Relations differ from a man's. Officer is husband, Seven Killings a secondary husband, Food Spirit a son, and Hurting Officer a daughter. The classic says: A man takes what controls his stem as descendants; a woman takes what her stem generates as children and servants.
The year is ancestors; month is parents, paternal uncles, siblings, and household gates; day is wives, concubines, and oneself. How do the Six Relations suffer control? Resource Seal seeing Wealth harms mother and grandmother. Peer, Robber, and Yang Blade harm wives, concubines, and father. Many Officers and Killings make siblings difficult; much Hurt and Food make children difficult. Owl Resource harms grandchildren and grandmother. Direct Resource combining makes the mother improper; Wealth combining makes the wife improper; Indirect Wealth combining makes the concubine improper; Peer combining makes sisters improper; Hurting Officer combining makes the grandmother improper; Food Spirit combining makes the granddaughter improper. For a Jia day master, Gui is mother; seeing Wuchen makes Wu father and concubine. Ji, Chou, or Wei contends with Wu and also injures Gui Water, making harm to mother clear. Jiayin harms father and concubine; Gengshen harms elder brothers and sisters; Yimao harms younger brothers and sisters; Bing and Si harm children. Infer the others similarly. The character seen in cycles determines which person is harmed. Also consider clash, control, decline, flourishing, and turning toward or away: what approaches advances, and what has completed its work retreats. Solitary Spirit, Widowhood Star, and Emptiness within the ten-day period are also avoided, yet two or three instead become auspicious. Empty Metal rings; empty Fire rises; empty Water flows: these three are most auspicious. Empty Wood rots and empty Earth collapses: these two are inauspicious. Begin from the natal year, and control and harm are beyond doubt.
Marginal note: What generates my self is mother; what controls my mother is father; what controls my stem is my child. Those of my own kind, Peers, are brothers and sisters. What generates my wife is my mother-in-law; what controls my mother-in-law is my father-in-law. For a woman's configuration, what she generates is children, and what comes to control her day stem is husband. What generates the husband is mother-in-law, and what controls mother-in-law is father-in-law. Siblings and parents otherwise follow the same rules as a man's configuration.

Concise Song on the Six Relations
Divided Emolument must injure the person managing provisions;
Repeated Peers harm the stern parent.
Direct Wealth harms mother, Indirect Wealth father;
Husband and wife punish one another upon meeting Retreating Spirit.
Food Spirit brings longevity and a wife with many children;
Indirect Officer brings many daughters and few prized sons.
Hurting Officer riding flourishing must cut off descendants;
Balanced Resource Seal naturally honors the self.
Marginal note: These eight lines concern punishment and harm in men's configurations. Peers and Blade excessively flourishing without restraint indicate harm to parents and affliction of the wife. With a Resource Seal pattern in the month's command, much Wealth in the Eight Characters harms mother, much Resource harms children, and a major cycle meeting Wealth does likewise.
Chapter on Wealth, Honor, Poverty and Low Standing in Women's Configurations
To infer a woman's configuration, first examine the Officer star. Officer carrying Killings brings poverty and low standing; Officer obtaining command brings peace and honor. Heavy Hurting Officer must impede the husband and gives a forceful disposition. Repeated Reversed Food reduces blessings: how much less bearable is an additional Solitary Chen! Heavy Killings must send her running to a noble household; many combinations must injure her reputation for chastity. Sitting on Emolument and riding the carriage brings steadiness and substance; clashes with the self and restless steps bring frivolity. Peach Blossom and Rolling Waves bring unspeakable shame in illicit flight. Day Emolument Returning to the Hour brings honored standing and respect. Heavenly and Monthly Virtue seated in the natal configuration, together with Resource Seal, bring distinction through enfeoffment of two states. Yang Blade is an inauspicious spirit, unfavorable to the husband's palace and also injuring one's lifelong disposition. The self's stem governs auspiciousness; a vigorous Metal Spirit in the hour requires examining the Eight Characters' strength or weakness. Exclusive Food brings an honored child and avoids abundant Indirect Resource impoverishing the self. Proper quiet within the inner chambers must come from a yin day preserving balance and harmony. Managing affairs in the husband's place comes from extremely flourishing day stem and branch. Generally welcome proper Emolument and fear Salty Pool. Distinction gains Long Life's aid; low standing returns to Defeat qi. Many Defeats in the Four Pillars greatly avoid clashes with the self and offending combinations. A lifetime of great busyness makes either a prostitute or a nun. Ruined Resource brings jealousy involving parents-in-law; exclusive Food gains children's strength. Repeated Officer and Killings require guarding against licentious disorder. Sisters revealed bring contention for a husband. Kuigang has inspired adaptability; Day Nobility has blessings of ordinary stability. Distinguish by stems and branches: abundant Officer and Killings without restraint must make a prostitute or nun.
Marginal note: Running away means failing to obtain a proper union. The Rites says: Betrothal makes a wife; elopement makes a concubine, as in Zhuo Wenjun's night flight to Sima Xiangru. The self's stem means day master. Metal Spirit here is Xinchou, Xinsi, and Xinyou, with a Si, You, and Chou Metal configuration offending the hour. Food Spirit is the child; exclusively flourishing, it indicates a blessed child. Day Nobility is the four days Guimao, Guiyou, Dingyou, and Dinghai.

Rolling Waves and Peach Blossom
A woman's configuration uses Officer as husband, or Killings, welcoming only one: many harm the husband. An entire chart of Officer stars is avoided, while pillars full of Killings instead bring auspicious blessings. Hurting Officer gives no distinction, and a further Hurting Officer cycle harms the husband. Restrained Hurting Officer makes the self distinguished. Hurting Officer in a woman's configuration afflicts children and husband and is a prostitute's configuration. Many Officer stars harm the husband and indicate low standing. Hurting Officer with Peach Blossom is a prostitute's configuration or indicates harm to children. One Nobleman, Glory Spirit, or even an Extinction place often brings wealth, honor, and chastity. Emolument and Horse accompany one another; Peach Blossom carries nobility. Salty Pool meeting Horse brings much lust, impeding the husband and ruining the household. Chen without Xu makes a solitary configuration and lonely later years. Many Xu without Chen bring early toil but a good middle age, without harming husband or children, though romantic and lustful. Chen and Xu both present bring licentious disorder, household ruin, injury to husband and children, shortened life, and disability.
Marginal note: Unrestrained Hurting Officer with the self in Extinction, also offending Peach Blossom and encountering Water, is definitely discussed as Rolling Waves.
